In March, Lake Shore Central School hosted their annual Bald for Bucks event and they raised an amazing $26,487!
Lake Shore Central brought together students from elementary to high school for their event, which was hosted before school at 5:30 a.m.! The students got their hair cut or shaved in the gymnasium by the high school’s cosmetology students. This year, more than 75 kids participated in the event.
One student who went bald this year was eleven-year-old Austin Russell. Austin chose to go bald to show his support of his Grandfather, Steven Rukavina, whom he calls Papa. Austin beat his goal of $200 and raised $1,205! He recently shared his fundraising tips on our blog.
We look forward to Lake Shore’s event each year because teacher Tony George founded Bald for Bucks at Lake Shore High School fifteen years ago in 2002. Tony, along with his students, went bald to support his sister who was battling cancer at the time.
Tony continues to go bald year after year and this year was joined by one of Roswell Park’s biggest supporters and cancer survivor, Kathy Graim. It was Kathy’s first time Goin’ Bald and we are so grateful for her support.
We can’t wait to cheer Tony and his students on again next year!
